Pom Klementieff was born the 3rd of May 1986. She was trained at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris and has been featured in films such as Loup (2009), Sleepless Night (2011) and Hacker's Game (2015). She is the character Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to her Korean mother and French-Russian father who was employed as a consul in the French government. Eugene Klementieff, a painter, was her grandfather. Pom was her name because it sounds like the Korean words "spring" and 'tiger" in Korean. Klementieff was a citizen of Canada for a single year. Her family had traveled extensively as a result of her father's work. After moving to France she lived in Japan. Klementieff lost her father to cancer at age five. Her mother was also diagnosed with schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her aunt and uncle paternal. Her uncle, whom she described as "like her father" died when she turned 18 and her older brother took his own life just seven years after, this occasion being her birthday. After the death of her uncle Klementieff was a law student for a brief time to please her aunt. However, she didn't think the path was appealing. She was also a waitress and saleswoman in France. She started acting at age 19 at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. After she completed her education she was awarded an acting competition that offered her two years of tuition free with some of the best instructors at the school. Klementieff was the first actor to play professionally in the independent French film Apres lui (2007). She played the role of the stepdaughter for the main character Catherine Deneuve. Filming for her scenes was a three-day process. During one scene, Klementieff was supposed to push a person down a set of steps but she fell down the stairs herself as did director Gael Morel kept that shot in the final film. Her first leading role was in Loup (2009) the French film that follows a tribe of reindeer herders located in the Siberian mountains. The film was shot in a camp hours away from the nearest village. The location was the one where temperatures plummeted to zero.
