Amy Carlson

Born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Amy Carlson spent most of her childhood in the Chicago area. But when Amy was in junior high, she and her family also lived in the Middle East where her parents, Bob and Barb, taught at the American School. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, as well as a brother Joe. Amy has traveled throughout Europe as a solo traveler and with her family. Since her parents were teachers which allowed them to spend every summer together traveling and camping all over the United States. They've camped in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy has also traveled to Rwanda after the war in 1994 to aid relief efforts. Amy was a skilled actor in school plays , and she won writing contests. Amy was a highly competitive athlete in high school and participated in the very first 3200-meter relay on the Illinois girls track. After an injury, she was able to return to theater and play many roles in plays, including Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's film "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy has graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) in the year of cum laude, with an A.A. East Asian history with a focus in Theater. She relocated to Chicago following graduation and began studying Improv at the Improv Olympic and acting in the theater at The Actor's Center. After graduation, she was offered a permanent job on the now-defunct soap opera Another World (1964). She was nominated in the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in Daytime Drama Series" category for the Daytime Emmy Award. The most memorable of her roles were of strong women in the roles of Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen with Tom Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband and Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She also runs Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and is employed as a partner in the company. Amy is still working on film and writing.
