Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1937 - August 17 in 2015) was an American actress and ballet dancer popular for her character in the role of Batgirl in the 1960s' television series Batman and as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969). The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer of female super heroes" on television. Yvonne Craig was raised in Columbus and was born in Taylorville in Illinois. Her family relocated to Dallas in 1951. She attended W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School and then W. H. Adamson High School. Unfortunately, she did not graduate due to the fact that she didn't have "one PE credit". Craig was recognized by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, becoming its youngest member of the corps de ballet. It was an amazing experience that helped her perform stunts in the role of Batgirl. In the year 1957, she quit the company "over a disagreement over changes to casting". She moved to Los Angeles in hopes of getting back into dance. However, she was soon cast in films roles. The first time she was seen was in an episode of the TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover"), alongside Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later was appointed the Batgirl's police commissioner James Gordon. After that, she appeared in three films, including The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and she also appeared in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig was in the film with Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961) with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as guest in the Western Laramie episode "The Long Road Back". Craig also starred with Elvis Presley's character in It Was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin Cousins (64). She also played an Russian dancer alongside James Coburn in Mars Needs Women (1966).
