Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 was an American retired artistic gymnast. She was also twice Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She received a gold medal in team competition at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also won gold. Raisman received silver medals for the all-around individual and floor exercise. She is the third most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles with six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a member of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist from the world championships in floor exercise in the year 2011. She also is two-time national champion in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion in balance beam. She's also five times a national champion in all-around competitions at national championships (silver, bronze, 2010 2011, 2012 and 2015.). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born May 25 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. There are three sisters younger than her: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has stated that she takes a lot pride in the fact that she is able to represent the United States of America but also the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman started gymnastics at the age of eighteen months. She credits her first interest in the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team who won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level of 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year via online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
